Academic Intervention Services (AIS) means instructional services in English Language Arts, mathematics, social studies and/or science, which supplement the instruction provided in regular classes and are congruent with the New York State learning standards, and/or student support services which could include guidance, counseling, attendance and study skills which are needed to support increased academic performance.
How Does A Child Become Eligible for AIS Services? ELA Scores- Students who scored a 1 or 2 in the ELA exam. Terra Nova Results- Students who scored a 23% on the reading section of the Terra Nova test. Class Average- Students who scored 65% or lower on the quarterly report card in reading. DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)-Students in Kindergarten, first, second, and third grade are screened individually in the areas of letter naming fluency, initial sound fluency, phoneme segmentation, nonsense word fluency, and oral reading fluency.
