Marching Rams Visit Chicago

The Amsterdam High School Marching Rams visited Chicago on Tues, Nov 21. They participated in the 2006 McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which began at 9:00 a.m. Central Time on Thanksgiving morning.

At 10:00 p.m. on Tues, the Amsterdam band boarded three coach buses and headed out for a 13-hour bus ride to Chicago, Illinois. They arrived the next day and enjoyed lunch at the Hard Rock Café before checking into the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Later that night, the students were treated to a dinner dance in the Grand Ballroom, along with the other 24 participating high school bands, of which Amsterdam was the only one representing New York State.

The next morning, after an early breakfast at 5:30 a.m., the band set off to march in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which draws 350 thousand people to the Chicago streets annually. Over 1.5 million viewers nationwide watch this nationally syndicated parade, as well. The parade was also available to viewers via a live video stream online.

After the parade, the band members had Thanksgiving dinner back at the hotel before heading back out to the famous Chicago Theater for a production of Shear Madness, America's longest running comedy who-dunnit.

On Friday, before beginning their long journey home, the band enjoyed visiting the Shedd Aquarium and later shopping at the Navy Pier. They arrived back in their hometown on Sat morning.
