Student Absences
Student absenteeism is a problem that is
confronting many secondary schools throughout the nation.
Amsterdam High School is no exception. Whatever the cause, the
cost per year to your school is phenomenal. Each student knows
mat his/her absence has a negative effect on his/her
education. It may be disturbing to receive frequent calls or
letters from the Attendance Office, but please be aware that a
record must be kept of your child's absence stating the dates,
duration and reason for absence. Excessive absenteeism (30
days) will preclude your child from attending summer school
should they be unsuccessful during the school year.
If a student arrives late to school during
first period, and thereafter, they will sign in at the front
door then proceed to the attendance office for a pass to
class. They will receive a "Late Entry" pass to
class, which will indicate excused or not excused.
It is the parent's or guardian's
responsibility to call or send in a written excuse when their
child(ren) is tardy or absent. In the event that tardiness is
not excused, the student may be assigned to detention from
2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
Please help us to encourage your child to
attend school daily. In the event of illness or tardiness,
please notify the Attendance Office by phone at 843-6001
before 9;00 a.m. Absences of excessive duration or
frequency require a note from the doctor. Thank you for your
assistance concerning the matter of absenteeism.
