Graduation Requirements

Definition Of A Full-Time Student

Five subjects or 5 Carnegie Units plus Physical Education. Students not carrying a full schedule as outlined below are not eligible for participation in the following:

  • Scholastic Honors (Honor Roll, Valedictorian, Salutatorian, National Honor Society, etc.)

  • Extra-class activities (Clubs, Dramatics, Marching Band, Majorettes, Cheerleading, etc.)

  • Local (School Scholarship Prizes, Awards)

High School Program

The basic areas of emphasis in the high school program are:

  • College Preparatory—This course of study prepares students to meet college entrance requirements. For any professional vocation requiring collegiate study, this course should be selected. The required courses should be taken on the Regents levels. Maximum effort of study both in and out of school needs to be applied to these courses.

  • Occupational

  • Business Education—The business curriculums are designed to prepare students as follows:

    • For office and store employment immediately after completing their high school program.

    • For post-high school education in the secretarial, clerical, accounting, data processing, and distributive education areas.

  • Vocational— This program enables students to pursue immediate employment upon high school graduation. Courses are offered in health occupations, cosmetology, building trades, automotive technology, graphic arts, home economics and CISCO networking.

2007 Score 65 or above on 4 required Regents exams and score 55 or above on 1 required Regents exam. Earn 22 units of credit. Score 65 or above on 5 required Regents exams. Earn 22 units of credit. Score 65 or above on 8 required Regents exams. Earn 22 units of credit

2008

  Score 65 or above on 5 required Regents exams. Earn 22 units of credit. Score 65 or above on 8 required Regents exams. Earn 22 units of credit. 
Note: The Regents Competency Test safety net for students with disabilities will continue to be available for students entering grade 9 prior to September 2010. Students using this safety net will receive a local diploma. The low-pass option of scoring between 55-64 on the required Regents exams to earn a local diploma will continue to be available for students with disabilities, without local option.

To earn the advanced designation, the student must complete one of the following:

  • A language other than English (3 credits)

  • CTE (5 credits)

  • The Arts (5 credits)

Sequence Requirements

In addition to the required credits, students pursuing either a local diploma or a Regents diploma must complete a sequence requirement by selecting Option A, B, or C:

Option A: Two three-unit sequences in any of the following areas:
  • Mathematics* 

  • Science* 

  • Occupational Ed.

  • Second Language (in addition to Regents diploma requirements or 4th unit of 2nd language)

  • NJROTC (Students completing a National Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program may receive up to three units of sequence credit toward graduation. That is, three units of NJROTC may be used to fulfill one three-unit sequence.)

  • Art**
