Attendance Eligibility For Summer School Enrollment
The Board of Education is deeply concerned with student attendance during the school year and its effect upon academic performance. It is assumed that students wishing to enroll in summer school courses have achieved acceptable attendance levels in the regular courses during the school year.
Attendance Eligibility for Summer School Enrollment Regulations
Board of Education Policy
Students who wish to enroll in a specific summer school class, for purpose of repeating such class, must meet the following attendance criteria:
-
They may not have been absent from the class they wish to repeat more than thirty (30) times during the
school year. This applies to full-year courses only.
-
They may not have been absent from the class more than twenty (20) times during a semester. This applied to semester courses only.
-
In the event a student does not meet the above mentioned attendance criteria, he/she may not enroll in the
specific summer school class.
-
Students who have not met the above mentioned attendance criteria for extenuating circumstances may request
the principal of the school involved to review the circumstances which prevented them from meeting the
attendance criteria. The building principal may agree or not agree to waive the attendance
criteria and allow the student to enroll in the specific summer school course.
Homework
Definition—Homework is any activity related to classroom curriculum and school learning which is completed outside of the classroom. The most common types of homework assignments include:
-
Completion of assignments not finished during class time;
-
Independent practice assignments which reinforce school learning and involve only material with which the student is familiar;
-
Preparation assignments given prior to class meetings so that class time may be spent in discussion or in some form of application of the information obtained;
-
Extension assignments which attempt to take the student beyond the work done in class.
Philosophy—Homework is a vital part of the learning process. The broad goal of homework is the quest for quality education. The educational process extends beyond the classroom and affects the student’s entire life. Homework provides the student with the opportunity to apply learning on an individual basis and to develop self-discipline and a positive attitude toward education.

Student Responsibilities
It is your responsibility to assume an active role in your own education. It is important to develop good study habits at school and at home.
You should:
-
Expect a reasonable amount of homework and be aware that not all of it will be easy. Some will be challenging
and enriching.
-
Keep an assignment notebook listing assignments, date of assignment and due dates. (School agendas are recommended).
-
Make sure that you listen to and understand directions before leaving class.
-
Plan ahead so you can organize your time to include all out-of-school activities.
-
Find a study area where you can concentrate.
-
Ask for help from teachers and parents only when you really need help. Do not expect either one of them to
do your work for you.
-
Do your work completely, neatly, accurately, and hand it in on time.
-
Talk with your teacher immediately if you do not understand why your homework is incorrect.
-
Be sure to make up missed assignments promptly after an absence from class or school.
-
Make good use of study hall time.
-
Contact the Guidance Office for homework if you will be absent five days or more due to illness.
