Welcome to 9th
grade mathematics (Integrated Algebra). I am looking
forward to working with you and your child to make this year
at Amsterdam High School successful. Please read and
discuss the following information with your child.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Materials needed for
class
1.
Student Assignment Notebook: 1 assignment
notebook will be needed for your child to write down daily
assignments.
2.
3-ring binder (1 ˝ inch or larger): This binder
must contain filler paper and 4 dividers.
They will be checked periodically. Parents, please monitor
your child’s progress through these binders which will
contain daily notes, homework, quizzes/tests, and weekly
journals.
3.
Textbook: The textbook is new. It should be
left home in a safe place at all times.
4.
Pencils with erasers and Pens: You should have
at least 2 sharpened pencils and a pen with you every class.
5. Calculator:
- students
should bring a graphing calculator to class with them
everyday. Student will be assigned one from the Math
Department. Students will not be able to share calculators
on any test or quiz – they must bring their own
calculator to use.
6.
Assignments Due That Day: Assignments should be
fully completed and readily available at the start of each
class. Assignments are collected on a daily basis.
EXPECTATIONS
Assignments:
*All homework is to be done in pencil,
unless otherwise stated by the teacher. An assignment left
at home or in the locker on the date due is considered “not
done”. Each student will be given homework passes at the
teacher’s discretion.
*All work must be shown for each
problem-answers only will not be accepted and no
credit will be given
*Homework will be checked daily by
collecting it and looking it over
*If homework is not done, no credit
will be given for that day’s assignment
* Homework will be averaged and 1 quiz
grade will be given per quarter
*Late assignments will NOT
be accepted as credit unless a student is legally
absent (5 days maximum to turn it in). Students are
encouraged to hand it in late so that I may still check it
over
*Aside from written work, homework also
includes review of notes, studying for tests and quizzes,
completing textbook readings, and keeping binders neat and
organized.
ABSENCES FROM CLASS:
*Students are expected to come
to class prepared and on time
*3 lates will result in after school
detention, each subsequent late will also result in
detention and possible In School Suspension
*Students are not allowed to cut class
– parents and/or administration will be notified of illegal
absence from class
*Students absent from school because of
an excused absence will have a maximum of 5 days to
make up all work – student must submit a note to the
attendance office when he/she is absent
*A student will lose credit for the
course if he/she has 30 or more unexcused absences
*It is the responsibility of the
student to find out what assignments and/or tests or
quizzes were missed – assignments can be found on my web
page located at
www.gasd.org
*Before a student attends a music
lesson, rehearsal, any meeting, etc., he or she must receive
teacher permission the day before the
scheduled absence from class. This will give the teacher
ample time to gather class material for the student. The
day of the scheduled absence, the student must come to the
beginning of class and hand in homework for that day and get
the current assignment. The student can not miss class if a
test or quiz is scheduled for that day.
TESTING:
*Quizzes and unit tests will be given periodically
*All work must be shown on tests
and quizzes to receive full credit on the problems
*Tests will count as double grades and
quizzes and homework will count as single grades
JOURNAL:
*Journal assignments will be given on a
weekly basis. These assignments model critical thinking
word problems and regents exam questions
*These assignments will be averaged and
1 quiz grade will be given per quarter
QUARTER AVERAGE:
* Student’s quarter grade will be
calculated by averaging test grades, quiz grades, homework
grades and journal grades
*All grades are numeric
EXTRA HELP:
*I am available to meet with students
by appointment when additional help is necessary. This may
be before or after school, and during lunch when before and
after school arrangements can not be made. The student
needs to speak with me to schedule a time to meet.
CLASSROOM RULES:
1. Treat other people and their
property with respect.
2. Be prepared for class each day.
Have your books, pencils and pens, and binder at your seat
so that you are ready to work.
3. Class begins when you enter the
room. This means you are in your seat working on the
problem of the day. If you are late, you
must have a
pass.
4. Follow all directions the first
time they are given.
5. Wait your turn to speak. Raise
your hand, don’t interrupt.
6. No food, candy, drink, or gum in
class.
7. Bathroom and water fountain use
are encouraged between class periods, so that valuable
classroom time is not missed or interrupted.
8. Whisper while you work in
pairs/groups.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. Telephone call or written notice to
the parents or guardians
2. After-school/lunch detention
3. Referral to Principal’s Office
