AHS student participates in the 72nd annual New York State Music Association Winter Conference

Richard China, an Amsterdam High School senior, traveled to Rochester, New York in November to participate in the 72nd Annual New York State School Music Association Winter Conference.

Richard was selected to sing tenor in the Allstate Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Amiee Beckman-Collier, who is the director of Choral Studies at Drake University in Iowa. Richard was selected for the performance ensemble based on his spring festival vocal solo, on which he scored a 99 in level six difficulty.

The conference included performances by the Allstate Mixed Chorus, Women's Chorus, Symphonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Jazz Chorus, and Jazz Ensemble.

Richard is the son of Joan and Gary China and is a student of Margaret Lazarou. He is also a member of the AHS Select Choir, under the direction of Patricia Valiante, the Mohawk Valley Chorus, the AHS Marching Rams, AHS Wind Ensemble, AHS Jazz Ensemble, and the Schenectady County Community College Jazz Ensemble. Richard is also an accomplished trombonist. He is the private student of Michael Meidenbauer of SCCC.
