Marie Curie fifth-graders recently
visited the University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science &
Engineering for the school's Nanocareer Day.
The College of Nanoscience is one of Marie Curie's
educational partners. Nanotechnology is the wave of the
future and involves building and working with very small
things. "Nano" is a unit of measurement that means
"a billionth."
Nanocareer Day was designed to stimulate interest and
enthusiasm in science, math,
and technology. The college is especially interested in
drumming up interest among girls, in the hope they will
choose one of those fields as a career.
After a brief
presentation, students were taken on an interactive tour of
the facilities and were guided by college faculty members. The tour
included hands-on activities that helped students learn more
about various topics related to nanotechnology.
At the conclusion of the day, students
were given refreshments and their own radio pen. This was a
great educational experience for all who attended and we
look forward to more collaborations with the college.
This was a tremendous experience for both our students and
the adults as well!
