Fitness trail grand opening at Amsterdam High School

Come celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new fitness trail at the high school on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will be held behind the soccer fields and a short reception will follow. Special guests from the community will be invited. There will also be giveaways and healthy snacks for participants.

The trail became a reality through a $7000 School Health Index Grant that the school was awarded last year by the district's Wellness Committee. The trail features six pieces of exercise equipment that will focus on both small and large muscle groups. The trail is intended to be used by all, which includes Amsterdam students, staff, and community members. With the ever growing awareness and problems of obesity in our society, Amsterdam High School has taken steps to help curb that trend.

A dedicated group from Amsterdam High School, along with 26 students in the AHS Youth Initiative Program, worked hard to make the trail a reality.
