Iraq war veteran visits students who wrote letters to him and his fellow soldiers

On Thursday, September 20th, Col. Jim Pabis visited Mrs. Moran's former 4th grade class. Col. Pabis is with the National Guard and he just recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.

Mrs. Moran's 4th grade students wrote letters to Col. Pabis last year, when he was stationed in Iraq. He wrote back, describing his experiences and answering the students' questions. Students also mailed Christmas packages filled with all sorts of goodies to Col. Pabis and his fellow soldiers, who were very grateful!

During his visit with the students, Col. Pabis thanked them for writing the letters and sending the packages, and told them that he and his fellow soldiers were comforted by the knowledge that people were thinking of them back home. While sharing pizza and soda with the students, Col. Pabis answered more questions about his experiences in Iraq, and presented Mrs. Moran with a plaque and a flag that flew in Iraq.

This was a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved. Col. Pabis was very appreciative for the connection to home that Mrs. Moran and her class gave him, and the students and Mrs. Moran were very appreciative for the connection that Col. Pabis gave them to what life was like serving our country in Iraq.
