Daily Schedule Homework Upcoming Tests Mon. & Tues. Gym Math WB p.46 Science- Plants 11/4/05 Weds. Art Math WB p. 48 Spelling 11/4/05 Thurs. & Fri. Music Study for plant test. Welcome to third grade! I would like to give you a little information about the upcoming year. Third grade is a transition year. In addition to spelling, reading , and math tests, we also have tests in health, science, and social studies. About once a month a study sheet will go home for health, science and social studies. The study sheet will go home approximately one week before the test is to be given. In addition to listening in class, studying the study sheet is important for your child to do well on the tests. Sometimes children think that if they have no written work , they have no homework. Studying is homework. Also reading at home with your child is important to build reading skills. Reading is a necessary part of every school subject, even math. Reading and discussing what was read helps to build comprehension skills. Reading each night for five to fifteen minutes is good practice, especially if you are reading with your child, helping him with difficult words, or helping with something about the story that your child does not understand. Practicing addition and subtraction facts at home is also important. We will also begin learning the multiplication facts this year. Practicing these facts is very important as they are used in many aspects of math. Also, if your child does not know the multiplication facts, he will not be able to divide.
