Barkley crowns 2020 Queen of Hearts

Congratuations to Barkley Elementary School 2020 Queen of Hearts Kindergarten teacher Jenelle DiMezza (left) and Princess of Hearts first grade teacher Kelly Fetterly.

Congratulations to Barley Elementary Kindergarten teacher Jenelle DiMezza who was crowned 2020 Queen of Hearts Feb. 13 by the school’s students and staff. First grade teacher Kelly Fetterly was named Princess of Hearts (runner up) both at the annual King/Queen of Hearts assembly just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Barkley held a “hearts” sale fundraiser in February with the school-wide theme of the month being Kindness. Students and staff purchased hearts and gave them to the teacher or staff member of their choice. The person receiving the most hearts was crowned the winner.

More importantly about $500 was raised this year with Barkley donating $300 to a community member in need (GASD graduate Anfernee Valentin) and $200 to support the school PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program. Second trimester PBIS BARK prizes were also awarded to students at the assembly, which featured student singing and dance performances as well.
