AHA students please register online for course electives

Hello parents, 

I hope all is well, and please take the necessary precautions to stay healthy.  You are receiving this notice because we have to prepare your child’s schedules for the 2020-2021 school year. To complete this process, we need their electives. Electives are non-core classes that they get to choose.  For example, Drawing and Painting, Digital Media, or School Newspaper. 

Typically, students would meet with their school counselor, review their transcripts and select electives based on their interests and what their schedule allows. With the current closure of school, we must transition to online electives. Online electives is your child choosing their electives through the student portal without the face to face meeting with their counselor. After picking electives, their school counselor will review their selections and make adjustments as needed. If there are issues with their schedules, their counselor will contact them. Please make sure they are constantly checking their school email. If they have trouble accessing their google account, please email:  Mrs. Fureno: kfureno@gasd.org

Below you will find information on  a) Things to be aware of when choosing electives, b) which departments offer electives, and  c) directions, including a video, of how to select your electives online

Things to be aware of :

  • Only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors need to choose electives
  • Students can only select 3 credits worth of  electives. The system will allow you to select more, but you can only select 3
  • Students are limited to 8 credits total. For example, if they currently have 6 credits/classes on their schedule, the maximum number of elective credits they can choose is 2. 
  • Students may not get every elective they choose. Therefore,they must  select electives based on preference. For example, the first elective they select will be their number one choice. Their second elective will be their second choice, and their third elective will be their third choice. 
  • Some electives are ½ year courses, which requires students to select another ½ year course. After they have selected the course, they must look for the word credit. If it says .5, that means it is a ½ year course and they must select another .5 course. 
  • Elective description can be found on the district website at https://www.gasd.org/student-services/counseling-office/ahs-course-catalog/ or by:
    • If you find an elective with letters DL– it indicates a distance learning course

  • Science 
  • Technology 
  • Social Studies

Directions for submitting online electives

    1. Go to the following link to access the student portal at https://studentportal-neric.eschooldata.com/amsterdam
    2. Log into the student portal– if you have never accessed the student portal or forgot your  password, please email Mr. Peter. His email address is below. 
      • Mr. Peter: Dpeter@gasd.org 
    3. Once logged in, Click on Course Request at the top of your screen.
    4. Click on New Request which is in the right hand corner of your screen.
    5. Select a Department in the drop down box.  After you have selected the Department, for example, Social Studies, click the dropdown box, which gives you options to choose from.
      • Choose your electives. AGAIN, YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO SELECT THREE 

  • Remember to check how much credit is being offered for the elective. If it’s .5,  then you must select another elective to make it a full year option

 

    • Click save for your request and repeat steps 2-4
  2. Once you have selected your electives, please email your counselor so they will know that you have completed this process

espero que todo esté bien y tomen las precauciones necesarias para mantenerse saludables. Está recibiendo este aviso porque tenemos que preparar sus horarios para el año escolar 2020-2021. Para completar este proceso, necesitamos sus asignaturas optativas. Lasoptativas clasesson clases no básicas que puedes elegir. Por ejemplo, dibujo y pintura, medios digitales o periódico escolar.

cosaspara tener en cuenta:

  • solo los estudiantes de primer año, los estudiantes de segundo año y los jóvenes deben elegir asignaturas optativas.
  • Solo puede seleccionar 3 créditos de asignaturas optativas. El sistema te permitirá seleccionar más, pero solo puedes seleccionar 3.
  • Estás limitado a 8 créditos en total. Por ejemplo, si actualmente tiene 6 créditos / clases en su horario, el número máximo de créditos optativos que puede elegir es 2. 
  • Es posible que no obtenga todos los cursos optativos que elija. Por lo tanto, seleccione su electiva según su preferencia. Por ejemplo, la primera electiva que seleccione será su elección número uno. Su segunda electiva será su segunda opción, y su tercera electiva será su tercera opción.

llegarpara la presentación de optativas en línea

    1. Vaya al siguiente enlace para acceder al portal de estudiantes en https://studentportal-neric.eschooldata.com/amsterdam
    2. Inicie sesión en elestudiantes portal de; si nunca ha accedido al portal de estudiantes u olvidó su contraseña, envíe un correo electrónico al Sr. Peter. Su dirección de correo electrónico está abajo. 
    3. Una vez que haya iniciado sesión, haga clic en Solicitud de curso en la parte superior de su pantalla.
    4. Haga clic en Nueva solicitud que se encuentra en la esquina derecha de su pantalla.
    5. Seleccione un departamento en el cuadro desplegable. Después de seleccionar el Departamento, por ejemplo, Estudios sociales, haga clic en el cuadro desplegable, que le dará opciones para elegir.
      • Elige tus asignaturas optativas. DE NUEVO, SOLO SE PERMITE SELECCIONAR TRES

    • Haga clic en Guardar para su solicitud y repita los pasos 2-4.
