AHS grad Brown inducted into Capital District Track and Field HOF

Congratulations to Amsterdam High School graduate Izaiah Brown, who was inducted into the Capital District Track and Field Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 23. Brown was a five-year eligible inductee.

He was a member of the Amsterdam High School Class of 2015, and the Rutgers University Class of 2019.

How talented was Amsterdam’s lzaiah Brown? Consider this: He won Athlete of the Meet four straight years at the Eddy Meet while acquiring 11 trophies from 2012-15 at the premiere event on the local spring calendar.

He set a state class record for freshmen of 47.80 in the 400-meter dash in his first Eddy Meet appearance and never looked back as a talented sprinter who captured three straight state titles in the 400-meter and one in the 4 x 400-meter relay. Brown exited high school holding all-time Section II bests of 46.40 in the 400-meter, 21.10 in the 200-meter and 3:17.01 in the 4 x 400-meter relay, where his anchor split time was a dazzling 45.11.

Brown, who holds 10 Amsterdam school records, was impressive indoors as well winning two state 300-meter titles and placing second in the indoor nationals 400-meters with an all-time area record time of 47.32. His 34.30 in the 300-meters ranks second on the list.

On scholarship at Rutgers University, Brown chalked up four Big Ten championships indoors and one outdoors, then was a two-time second-team All-American for his efforts in NCAA championship meet He was Athlete of the Meet in the Big Ten Championships and conference Freshman of the Year (2016). Brown set Rutgers school records in four indoor events and two outdoor events, lowering his personal bests to 15.27 in the 400-meter, 20.68 in the 200-meter and 10.49 in the 100-meter.
