AHS names Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Class of 2022 top graduates

Mason Sarabia – Class Valedictorian

Mason Sarabia

Mason Sarabia is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), Liberty Partnership Program and studied in the New Visions Health Program at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Sarabia plans on majoring in pre-med in college to become a physician. He is intrepid and likes trying new things.

Brenna McNamara – Class Salutatorian

Brenna McNamara

Brenna McNamara is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2022 with an overall GPA of 98.30. She is a three-year President of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Student Government, Vice President of the Computer Club, Co-Editor of the high school newspaper, and a member of the Drama Club and Majorettes. She earned the 1870 Scholar Award from Syracuse University and the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. She has taken a variety of honors and Advanced Placement courses throughout her high school career. She plans to attend Syracuse University and study Forensic Science and Psychology.

Aurora Morley – No. 3

Aurora Morley

Aurora Morley is ranked No. 3 in the Class of 2022. She is a three-year member and Treasurer of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Tri-M Honor Society and Student Government. Extracurricular activities include serving as Vice President and Secretary of the Drama Club, Marching Rams, Jazz Band and Pit Orchestra. She plans on attending Southern New Hampshire University to study for an online cybersecurity degree.

Jayla McGaffin – No. 4

Jayla McGaffin is ranked No. 4 in the Class of 2022. She is a three-year member of the National Honor Society, a continuous member of the Principal’s List and excelled in the Criminal Justice program at the BOCES Career & Tech Center. She is a four-year member of the Marching Rams where she was Flute Section Leader and she played lacrosse. She plans to attend the University of New Haven and study Forensic Science and Psychology.

Kurt Reyes – No. 5

Kurt Reyes is ranked No. 5 in the Class of 2022. He was a member of the Smart Scholars Program, the Science and Technology Entry Program and the Liberty Partnership Program. He is a four-year member of the Principal’s List and has completed many college and Advanced Placement courses. He is an advocate for the “Stop Asian Hate” movement, and participated in the Marching Rams and track and field team. He plans to attend Fulton Montgomery Community College and to study for a degree in Nursing.

Syed Husain – No. 6

Syed Usaed Husain

Syed Husain is ranked No. 6 in the Class of 2022. Husain is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), and the Liberty Partnership Program (LPP). He is also a Questbridge College Prep Scholar and Questbridge National College Match Finalist. As a member of the Amsterdam High School Marching Rams he was a lead snare drummer and a section leader. After graduation, his plans include earning a bachelor’s degree in business or finance and pursuing a career in that field.

Brianna Francisco – No. 7

Brianna Francisco

Brianna Francisco is ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2022. Francisco is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Le Moyne Vice Presidential Heights Scholarship. She participated in multiple extracurricular activities while in high school including Marching Rams as a tenor saxophone player, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as an oboist, JV and Varsity Basketball, JV and Varsity Volleyball. She plans on attending Le Moyne College, Syracuse, in the fall. Her college major is undecided.

Netanya Weiss – No. 8

Netanya Weiss

Netanya Weiss is ranked No. 8 in the Class of 2022. Weiss is a member of the National Honor Society and will earn an Advanced Regents diploma. She is part of the early admittance program at Fulton Montgomery Community College and is on the dean’s list there. Extracurricular activities include Art Club, soccer and lacrosse. She plans to major in Sociology in college and become a social worker.

Nicholas Auspelmyer – No. 9

Nicholas Auspelmyer

Nicholas Auspelmyer is ranked No. 9 in the Class of 2022. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was a founding board member for Amsterdam High School’s Computer Science Club. He was a member of the Jazz Band and played football, tennis and golf. He has been accepted to the Rochester Institute of Technology where he will pursue an engineering degree.

Yarelis Rodriguez – No. 10

Yarelis Rodriguez

Yarelis Rodriguez is ranked No. 10 in the Class of 2022. Rodriguez is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) and will earn an Advanced Regents diploma. Extracurricular activities included Drama Club, Computer Science Club and Select Chorus. She is undecided about what college she will attend but would like to major in Psychology and become a licensed therapist.
