AHS students learn from professional pitcher

athlete on a virtual classroom screen

Amsterdam High School students in the Distance Learning Sports and Society class had a unique opportunity this week to visit with and learn from a professional sports figure. Students welcomed guest speaker Noah Murdock, a professional baseball player drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft out of the University of Virginia. The 22-year-old is assigned to the Appalachian League (advanced rookie level) as a Royals pitcher. His presence on the screen was captivating as he shared how he developed in his maturity academically and as an athlete from high school and then to college. Noah was gracious with our students and the virtual format allowed the class to be very informal and open. There was a lot of back in forth with the students, in a question and answer format. He shared his story about his life as a youth and how much growth he has had and kept turning it back to the students for their input. It was a very inspiring and uplifting conversation.
