The Greater Amsterdam School District Board of Education recently named John Miller as the new Principal of Tecler Elementary School, effective April 3, 2017. He will be replacing Principal Dr. Phyllis McGill, who will retire at the end of March.
Miller currently serves as the assistant principal at Tecler – a position he has held since 2013. He began his education career in 2004 as a teacher at Marie Curie Elementary. Miller taught a variety of grades at Marie Curie – including 2, 3 and 5 – for nine years.
“It is an honor to be selected as the next principal of Tecler Elementary,” Miller said. “I look forward to working together on shared goals and setting high standards for student achievement. The Tecler community is built on collaboration and best practice. I am excited to work with such a talented and committed staff and group of students.”
Miller attended Utica College of Syracuse University for his undergraduate degree in English. He received his master’s degree in childhood education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, where he also completed the School Building Leadership Program.
“Mr. Miller has demonstrated a strong passion for teaching and learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Vicky Ramos. “He has proven to be a strong instructional leader and his dedication to GASD is evident.”
The board appointed Miller during a special meeting on Dec. 7.
