In an effort to continually improve school transportation and safety for students, GASD and its transportation contractor STA will begin piloting a new electronic student and school bus tracking system called Zonar. Fifty students from various schools in our district are being randomly chosen for the pilot/trial program which is expected to get underway in January. Parents will be notified if their student will participate in the trail.
With Zonar, students are issued a card that is swiped when they enter and exit their buses and that information can be tracked by staff and parents through a phone or computer app. The app for parents will be deployed at a later date once the first phase is tested. Once the pilot program is completed and evaluated the district and STA hope to expand it for all students who take district transportation.
