Amsterdam High School and Tecler Elementary won $31,541 in equipment through the NYSED National School Lunch Program Equipment grant.
The district will be using the money to purchase two convection ovens for AHS and one for Tecler. Tecler will also receive a refrigerator and a cook/hold oven.
“The grants are available to school districts with a high percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch,” said Bob Bardin, general manager of The Abbey Group at GASD, the company that manages the district’s food services. Since September 2015, all students in the district receive free breakfast and lunch.
Bardin said the grant will replace equipment in the district that is current more than 20 years old.
“These improvements will no doubt create a better atmosphere for the students, along with faster service,” Bardin said. “Staff and I are very much looking forward to these improvements.”
