GASD UPK program to start up Dec. 1

We are pleased to announce that the Greater Amsterdam School District will begin Universal Pre-Kindergarten instruction for the 2020-21 school year on December 1, 2020. The program, delayed in September due to financial issues and COVID-19 restrictions, was given the go-ahead at the October 23 Board of Education meeting.

Parents who have already registered for the 2020-21 UPK program will be notified by the Office of the District Registrar as to school schedules and further details. Please note the district no longer offers bus transportation to school for Pre-K students. Parents/guardians will be responsible for dropping off and picking up their children at school. No exceptions.

If you have not enrolled your child in the UPK program and you meet the criteria, space is still available. Parents may register their student(s) online at where you’ll find instructions, forms and more information.

Please note that due to COVID-19, there are no walk-in registrations at this time. We know this is new for many parents. If you need help please contact the following people for assistance by email between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.:

GASD UPK is a free, full-day educational program for children ages 4 (and sometimes 3 in the community) to assure they receive quality care that promotes their development and readiness for Kindergarten. UPK is offered at the district’s four elementary schools and through Whispering Pines Preschool, Henrietta Boulevard.
