Child Nutrition

School meals will continue to be available to all students, including those attending school in-person and those learning remotely.

Meals onsite

For students onsite, meals will be provided while maintaining appropriate social distancing between students. Students do not need to wear face coverings when seated and eating so long as they are appropriately socially distanced.

The district will ensure social distancing between individuals while eating in the school cafeteria. If not feasible, meals may be served in alternate areas (e.g., classrooms) or in staggered meal periods to ensure social distancing and proper cleaning and disinfection between students.

The sharing of food and beverages (e.g., buffet style meals, snacks) is prohibited, unless individuals are members of the same household. Adequate space will be reserved for students, faculty, and staff to observe social distancing while eating meals.

Elementary School

  • Both breakfast and lunch may be provided in classrooms to limit exposure to COVID-19 and cut down on opportunities to congregate.
  • Lunch pre-packaged and served to ensure appropriate social distancing, including allowance for eating in classrooms.
  • Posters or signs will be posted in the school to remind students/staff of hand hygiene.
  • Alternate locations will be provided for students with severe food allergies, as needed.

At Lynch Literacy Academy the cafeteria and gym will be used for student lunches with students social distancing when they eat.
  • Food lines will be marked and supervised for property social distancing and students will be required to wear masked before arriving at their eating station.
  • Proper handwashing will be exercised before and after meals and hand santizer will be provided.
  • Alternate locations will be provided for students with severe food allergies, as needed.
  • Food line pickup areas and cafeteria desks will be wiped down and disinfected by custodial staff after each lunch period.

Meals offsite/remote

  • Offsite meal delivery will follow the model that was used during last year’s closure and over the summer during remote learning days. The district will set up pickup sites and hours for families to secure grab and go meals. A contact-free pickup model will be utilized.  Face coverings are to be worn by staff, volunteers and families coming to pick up food. The district will also utilize last school year’s model to deliver grab and go meals to families at various pickup locations in the community. Pickup locations, days and times will be publicized on the district website, School Messenger and social media channels. Translation services for the district’s Spanish speaking population will be used where appropriate.
