Information on UPK-5 switch to four days per week in-person instruction

GASD students/families,

Next week marks an important milestone for all of us at GASD. As COVID numbers continue to show improvement in our state and region, I am excited to begin safely welcoming back more children to school, more often for in-person learning. School is where our young people belong for their academic, social and emotional growth and wellbeing.

Beginning Tuesday, March 16, Pre-K-5 students, who completed the online notification process within the established timeframe, will shift back to in-person learning four days per week (Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays). This change will follow Monday’s schedule Superintendent’s Conference Day (No school for all students Monday) and only affect elementary school students at this time. All secondary students will remain on the Purple and Gold, two-day per week hybrid model.

For all elementary school students returning for in-person instruction, please remember to:

  • Complete the Parent Square safety app each school day before 9 a.m.
  • Continue to follow all safety protocols that are in place (mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, etc.) whether or not you have been COVID vaccinated.
  • Limit the items you carry back and forth from home to school.
  • Please do not bring your Chromebooks to school. Keep them home for Wednesday Remote Only Instruction day.

For ELEMENTARY GASD students receiving Special Education Services

All students in K-5 receiving Consultant Teacher services (currently following hybrid schedule), will return to four days a week, starting Tuesday, March 16. At this time, there will be no change to the secondary model.

All students in Special Class currently attending four days a week will now attend 5 days a week, starting Wednesday, March 17 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

For SECONDARY  GASD students receiving Special Education Services

All students in Special Class currently attending four days a week will now attend 5 days a week, starting Wednesday, March 24, based on the following hours:

  • Lynch Literacy Academy: 7:50 a.m. – 12:08 p.m.

Students will attend core classes and lunch following a schedule created in partnership with self-contained Special Education teachers

  • Amsterdam High School: 7:50 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Students will follow their regular Wednesday schedule

Special Education Related Services

With the change in scheduling, we will no longer offer in-person-related services on Wednesdays beginning March 17.

I know the last 12 months have been a long and extremely challenging time for all of us. I commend everyone for being stringent with the safety protocols we have in place as this has helped us get to this point. We look forward to more encouraging news in months ahead.
