Faculty, staff, and families gathered Monday night in the cafeteria of William B. Tecler Elementary as Make A Wish Northeast New York revealed their latest wish recipient. Olivia DeLuca, a five-year-old daughter of one of the schools’ faculty members will be heading to Disney to meet all of the princesses.
“It was so wonderful to share such a happy moment with the Tecler Community,” said Kellie DeLuca, Social Worker at Tecler. “My family is so grateful and it means so much to be able to share this moment with friends who have been so supportive of Olivia and my family over the past five years.”
Olivia suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. She has suffered multiple seizures and hospitalizations since the age of nine months and recently underwent surgery for her illness.
The Tecler school community has been supporting Make A Wish through their ‘Pie a Teacher’ fundraiser for several years. The school has raised nearly $4,000 in support of the organization.
“It is so wonderful for our school to come together to not only support a wonderful organization like Make A Wish Northeast New York, but to also see the impact when a child’s wish is granted,” said Principal John Miller.
The cafeteria filled with applause and cheers when with the wish was announced. It was a special moment for everyone there.
