Out of School Suspension Educational Program

Established in 2007, the district’s Out of School Suspension Educational Program (OSSEP) was designed to provide academic support to students who are suspended from Amsterdam High School or Lynch Literacy Academy.

This full-day academic program — which includes breakfast, lunch and busing services — is run at Amsterdam High School.

About Us

The purpose of OSSEP is to ensure students continue to receive their education seamlessly, even though they are no longer able to receive it in their assigned school.

OSSEP staff gathers the students’ current academic assignments from their teachers on a daily basis. While at OSSEP, the students complete their assigned work and academic help is provided by a licensed teacher, with the help of a certified teaching assistant. Once the student has completed the assigned work, the work is then returned to the regular classroom teacher.

Not only are students given the guidance to continue their academic growth, but while in OSSEP, they are given the tools they need to successfully return to their classroom, participate in their education and engage in positive social interactions once their suspensions are over.

Students in the program have access to counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, guidance counselors and the full array of services offered at either the high school or the middle school.

The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:25 p.m. every regular school day throughout the year. Breakfast and lunch are provided, and busing is also available.
