Update from the Transportation Department Sept. 27

September 27, 2019

Due to an industry wide shortage of qualified school bus drivers, the Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) continues to have transportation issues locally. We apologize for the impact this has on you and your child(ren) and appreciate your continued patience as we navigate these challenges.

As you may know, GASD contracts with Brown’s Transportation company for bus services.  The GASD leadership team, transportation department personnel and representatives from Brown’s Transportation have formed a team and have been meeting regularly to work through individual concerns and address issues that impact the transportation routes, including the shortage of drivers.

As adjustments are made to routes to continue to best serve the students, building principals will be communicating this information directly to students and parents.  Please note that as we continue to work through this transition, schedules/times may be modified. Once these modifications are made, parents will be notified.

The number one priority for the district is to ensure that your child(ren) arrive safely and securely to and from school.

If you have questions, please contact us at transportation@gasd.org.

Lastly, Brown’s Transportation is continuing to recruit and hire qualified bus drivers. If you are interested in becoming a bus driver or know of anyone interested, please contact Brown’s Transportation at 518-843-4700.
