Update from the Transportation Department

September 5, 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have been experiencing a high volume of transportation issues due to a shortage of bus drivers. While we are working to address each of the individual concerns, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition period.

Please note that the Greater Amsterdam School District Transportation Department has automatically used the primary address in eSchool for busing assignments. If you need transportation to a different address, please take a moment to fill out the Alternate Transportation Request Form and email it to transportation@gasd.org. Any Alternate Transportation Request Forms that are received, will require a minimum of seven business days processing time.  We will do our best to accommodate the requests as they come in, but the district cannot reasonably or safely change routes that were in place prior to the start of the school year without time to process.

The Alternate Transportation Request Form is available here. You may also pick up a copy of the form at the District Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Once an Alternate Transportation Request form has been filled out, families will only be allowed to make one additional change for the remainder of the school year.

As a reminder, parents/guardians are responsible for the behavior and safety of their students at the bus stop until they enter the bus and after they depart the bus. Additionally, students grades K-2  must be met by an authorized child care provider or adult.  Transportation to locations other than home address follow the same guidelines with respect to supervision from home to the bus stop and from the bus stop to home (or daycare facility). It is the responsibility of the daycare provider to ensure safe travel of student(s) to and/or from the bus stop.

Please contact the Transportation Office at 518-843-3186 or by email at transportation@gasd.org if you have questions.

Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Thank you,

Greater Amsterdam School District Transportation Department
