Polar Plunge

The Greater Amsterdam School District placed first in the Cool School Challenge for the third consecutive year, raising nearly $17,000 during this year’s Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics New York.

More than 50 GASD students, staff members, and supporters participated in the annual event, taking the plunge in 48-degree water with 45-degree air temperatures. The district’s purple-and-gold team filled the shoreline with Ram pride, energy, and enthusiasm.

This year’s team shirts were generously sponsored by Scott Beatty of State Farm Insurance, helping unite the team with a cohesive and spirited look.

“This event truly reflects the heart of our district,” Superintendent Richard Ruberti said. “Our students and staff continue to show up, work together, and make a meaningful difference for Special Olympics athletes across the region. We are extremely proud of their commitment.”

GASD’s continued success in the Cool School Challenge underscores the district’s strong culture of community service and its ongoing support for Special Olympics New York.
