AHS Mural

A new mural at Amsterdam High School is now on display, reflecting student input, creativity and collaboration with local partners.

The project was led by award-winning Capital Region mural artist Eugene O’Neill and made possible through a partnership with Creative Connections Clubhouse. Students in Mrs. Lewandowski’s Drawing and Painting course, along with other interested students, worked together to design and paint the mural.

The imagery was developed using student designs and survey responses. Students indicated they wanted to feel safe, inspired and motivated when entering the school, and those themes are represented throughout the final piece.

Students who participated in the project will have an opportunity to continue their work beyond the school. They have been invited to paint a mural on East Main Street next to Stewart’s Shops as part of 518 Day, scheduled for May 18.

Each year, 518 Day is organized by United Way of the Greater Capital Region and brings community members together to support local nonprofits and community-based organizations through volunteer service.

The mural project provided students with an opportunity to contribute to their school environment while engaging in a collaborative, community-based art experience.
