What began as a thoughtful idea to support students has blossomed into a growing resource at Amsterdam High School.
The school’s Dress Boutique, created by teacher Deanna Palczak, offers students free gently used dresses for semi-formal dances, prom and ball. What started on a smaller scale last year has expanded into a boutique-style space that now provides students with more options and an even more welcoming experience.
Students can browse dresses, try them on in a dressing room, use mirrors to find the right fit and explore accessories such as shoes to complete their look.
Palczak said the goal is to make sure every student has the opportunity to feel confident and excited for milestone events.
“I wanted to create a space where students could feel special, supported and celebrated,” Palczak said. “Seeing this grow through the generosity of our staff and community has been incredibly rewarding.”
All dresses in the boutique have been donated by community members and staff. Students may keep their dress after the event or donate it back so another student can use it in the future.
That ongoing cycle of giving has helped the boutique continue to expand while creating opportunities for more students each year.
The Dress Boutique is open by appointment. Students interested in visiting may email Palczak at dpalczak@gasd.org or stop by Room A14.
