Physical Education

Students are required to complete 2 credits in Physical Education to meet the graduation requirements.  

Physical Education is an instructional program contributing to the mental, physical and social development of all students.  The high school Physical Education program continues to build upon the elementary and middle school programs with the primary focus on understanding the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.  The main goal of the program is to foster greater knowledge and enjoyment of, and lifelong participation in, physical activity while creating a positive environment for all students to participate and be successful in physical education class.   

Health-related physical fitness will be an integral part of all units with students identifying, analyzing, applying and assessing fitness knowledge and skills to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition.  Through a variety of developmentally appropriate activities, students will acquire the knowledge and skills that are an important part of their total educational experience, improving fitness, self-confidence and achievement.

The program stresses cooperation, safety, sportsmanship and fair play through a variety of small group, large group and individual activities. All students will be expected to understand their role as a respectful, responsible and safe individual striving to foster a positive environment for the benefit of all students.  

Areas of study at the high school level may include, but are not limited to the following: 

Fitness activities, fitness concepts, nutritional information, weight training, archery, badminton, bowling, cricket, dance, golf, Kin-ball activities, pickleball, experiential learning activities, self-defense, Speedminton, softball, Tae Bo, tennis, track & field activities, volleyball and yoga.
