The Greater Amsterdam School District held its annual Unified P.E. Yard Game Olympics on Friday, Feb. 13, bringing together students for a day focused on inclusion and shared participation.
The Unified P.E. program pairs students with and without disabilities in physical education activities designed to promote teamwork, communication and cooperation. Throughout the event, students rotated through organized yard game stations, working alongside peers to complete activities and support one another.
Staff members coordinated each station to ensure students were engaged and participating. The program structure provides opportunities for students to build relationships, practice leadership skills and strengthen their understanding of inclusion within the school community.
“This event reflects what Unified P.E. is all about — students learning and participating together,” Athletic Director John Salls said. “When we create opportunities for all students to work side by side, it strengthens our school community.”
The event also received regional recognition, earning a feature by News10 as part of its Classroom Progress Report series.
Unified P.E. is part of the district’s continued efforts to provide inclusive opportunities for students of all abilities. The annual event highlights GASD’s commitment to ensuring every student has access to meaningful participation in school activities.
