Students in Mrs. Ponzi’s STEAM class at McNulty Elementary recently participated in a pilot program using Expedition 2.0 virtual reality headsets. The program introduced K-5 students to new immersive learning opportunities, guided by McNulty technology coach Mrs. Fureno.
Through the VR experience, students explored ocean habitats, outer space, and various landscapes without leaving their classroom. Expedition 2.0 headsets offer a full 360-degree view, allowing users to look up, down, and around in a virtual environment. Students shared positive reactions to the experience, highlighting the excitement of visiting places such as outer space.
The Greater Amsterdam School District is exploring the potential of expanding VR technology use across additional grade levels and subjects in the future. District leaders are optimistic that tools like Expedition 2.0 will continue to enhance student engagement and provide new ways to support curriculum and instruction.
Families can expect to hear more about this initiative as the district evaluates the pilot program and considers broader implementation.
