First grade students at McNulty Elementary School recently took the lead during a schoolwide Leader in Me Assembly centered on Habit 1: Be Proactive, demonstrating leadership, creativity and teamwork.
Each first grade class developed its own project before coming together for a collaborative presentation that showcased what it means to be proactive both in and out of the classroom. During the assembly, students performed short skits illustrating the difference between proactive and reactive behaviors. Audience members participated by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to identify which actions reflected proactive choices.
Students also shared a creative acrostic poem highlighting ways to take initiative, make responsible decisions and show leadership in everyday situations. The presentation concluded with an energetic chant that encouraged everyone in attendance to practice Habit 1 in their daily lives.
The assembly reflected the core principles of the Leader in Me program, which focuses on empowering students to develop leadership skills and take ownership of their actions.
McNulty staff praised the first grade students for their confidence and collaboration, noting that every student had a role in bringing the assembly to life.
The event served as a reminder that leadership can begin at any age, and McNulty’s first graders demonstrated that even the youngest students can set a positive example for their school community.
