Unified Sports

On Monday, June 9, students from Tecler Elementary School met with members of the Amsterdam High School Unified Rams Sports Program to present a $250 donation raised through the school’s Coffee Cart initiative.

The Tecler Coffee Cart is a yearlong program that provides students with hands-on learning experiences focused on developing daily living skills. The initiative integrates support from occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy services to support student growth in a functional setting.

Through their work with the Coffee Cart, students practiced communication, motor skills, sequencing and responsibility. The proceeds from the cart were donated to the Unified Rams to support inclusive athletic opportunities at Amsterdam High School.

Staff and students from both programs gathered at Tecler to mark the occasion and celebrate the collaboration.

The Unified Sports Program is part of a partnership between the New York State Public High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics New York that promotes social inclusion through shared sports experiences for students with and without intellectual disabilities.
