The Greater Amsterdam School District proudly announces that Jessica Verrigni has been named the 2023-24 Capital Zone’s Adapted Teacher of the Year. 

Verrigni's physical education teaching journey began with her earning a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Sage College and furthered with a master's degree in Adaptive Physical Education from Adelphi. With a teaching career spanning a decade, Verrigni has supported the physical education needs of students at Amsterdam High School, where she has not only excelled in traditional PE, but has also been instrumental in the development of Adaptive and Unified PE programs. 

In addition to her commitment both in the gymnasium and the classroom, Verrigni  goes the extra mile by coaching various sports teams at Amsterdam High School. Her contributions extend to varsity girls soccer, junior varsity basketball, unified basketball, and she also volunteers as an unpaid assistant coach for girls lacrosse. 

Verrigni’s  dedication to her students  was previously acknowledged in February 2022 when she received the prestigious Action on Behalf of Children (ABC) award.  

The Greater Amsterdam School District congratulates Jessica Verrigni on her well-deserved recognition as the NYS AHPERD Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
