Dear Parents/Guardians,
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by today’s late notification on the two hour delay. We are actively addressing this issue to ensure a smoother process moving forward.
Additionally, we would like to notify you of alternative channels through which you can receive important information regarding cancellations or delays.
Emergency Closure Communications
We utilize ParentSquare as our primary platform for notifying you about emergency school closings, delays, and early dismissals. The system automatically generates emails and text messages for those who have opted for the text message option. If you're uncertain about whether we have your correct contact details, kindly reach out to the main office of your child’s school.
As a backup, we also utilize the district website and local news media for notifications. Traditionally, we post announcements on news outlets. Today’s information was released at 5:30 a.m. on the news.
Please note that we do not employ social media for emergency notifications due to the unpredictable timeframe of reaching subscribers. It is advisable to rely on multiple sources for weather-related announcements, especially during power outages, which may impact our ability to update the website and send electronic notifications.
Decisions regarding early dismissals, delayed openings, or school closures during inclement weather are made following discussions between the superintendent, the district’s transportation director, and the latest weather predictions. Unless otherwise specified, all scheduled activities at Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) schools are canceled on days of closure or early dismissal. The same applies to after-school and evening activities canceled due to inclement weather.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Rich Ruberti
GASD Superintendent of Schools
