Dear AHS Families,

We want to inform you that on March 1, Amsterdam High School received a bomb threat via telephone that also indicated a student may bring a gun to school. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are taking immediate action to investigate.

Upon receiving the threat, law enforcement, including Amsterdam Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, were promptly informed and are currently on-site. As a precautionary measure, the school is under a hold-in-place status, meaning students and staff will remain in their rooms.

Enhanced security measures are in progress, with law enforcement conducting a thorough search of the premises alongside a bomb-detecting dog from Saratoga County. Arrival time for the bomb detection dog was around 1 p.m. This precautionary measure is taken out of an abundance of caution, as there is currently no indication of an imminent threat within the building. We will lift the Hold in Place order after the search, maintaining a secure perimeter with the front entrance as the sole point of access.

We understand the concern and anxiety that such situations can create. Rest assured that we are following established protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on our school grounds.

We will provide further guidance as soon as the situation is assessed and additional information becomes available. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this emergency. The safety of our students and staff remains our utmost priority.

Sincerely,
Rich Ruberti
GASD Superintendent of Schools
