On March 14, Barkley Elementary brought students together in a celebration of Pi Day, enhancing their understanding of the fundamentals of this special day. The day started with an assembly, informing students on the significance of Pi in measuring circles and curves.

From kindergarten to second grade, the students started their journey with Mrs. Morendo in the cafeteria. They crafted Pi bracelets and regal Pi crowns adorned with the initial ten digits of Pi. Additionally, they participated in pie-themed math activities and savored delicious cookie pies, fostering a hands-on learning experience.

For grades 3-5, Mrs. Cognetti orchestrated math sessions in the library. Students dove into pie fractions, tackled intriguing logic puzzles, and honed their skills in measuring a circle’s circumference and diameter. Furthermore, they showcased their creativity through pie-themed math crafts, complemented by the enjoyment of cookie pies within their classrooms.

A school-wide scavenger hunt engaged students in the quest to uncover the first ten digits of Pi, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. To conclude this day, Dr. Rad captivated the entire school with a captivating reading of "Sir Circumference and the Dragon of Pi", igniting imaginations and reinforcing the importance of mathematical exploration.

Pi Day at Barkley was not just an event but a celebration of mathematical curiosity and innovation. Through hands-on activities, collaborative endeavors, and captivating literature, students embraced the beauty and significance of Pi, laying the groundwork for a lifelong appreciation of mathematics.

Thank you to all our dedicated educators, staff, and students for making Pi Day a memorable experience at Barkley Elementary.
