The Greater Amsterdam School District and St. Mary’s Institute are delighted to announce a new partnership to offer a 4-Year-Old Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program free of charge, starting in September 2024. This partnership aims to enhance access to high-quality early childhood education within our community, providing a strong educational foundation for more children.
Program Details:
Capacity: The district plans to serve up to 16 students at St. Mary’s Institute for the 2024-25 school year.
Schedule: The Pre-K program will run five days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in accordance with the St. Mary’s Institute calendar.
Eligibility: Children must be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2024, and a resident of the Greater Amsterdam School District.
The UPK program at St. Mary’s is contingent upon approval of the New York State UPK Grant and enrollment numbers.
Registration:
Registration Period: Registration opens on June 18, 2024, and will close on July 18, 2024.
Selection Process: If the number of applications exceeds the number of available spots, entry will be determined by a lottery system. The lottery will be held on July 22, 2024, and families will be notified by July 26, 2024. Not all families who register will be guaranteed a spot.

St Mary’s Institute summer office hours are Tuesday-Thursday 9:00 am -1:00 pm. They will be closed from July 1-5, 2024.

Transportation: Parents/guardians must be able to transport their children to and from school every day. Transportation for UPK is not provided by the District.
Applications submitted after Jul 18, 2024 will not be included in the lottery.
