Amsterdam High School junior Kimberly Maldonado was recently honored with the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) JROTC Award for her leadership and service in the school’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) program.

Maldonado, a Cadet Second Lieutenant, received the award from Ed Balaban, a representative of the Capital District Chapter of MOAA, during a ceremony held at the school.

According to MOAA, the award recognizes JROTC cadets who demonstrate outstanding citizenship, personal responsibility, and commitment to service within their community and country.

The MOAA is the nation’s largest association of military officers, with more than 350,000 members. It is a nonprofit, politically nonpartisan organization that provides advocacy and support for current, former, and retired military officers and their families.

In addition to its advocacy work, MOAA offers career transition assistance, educational support for children of military families, and various resources to support military professionalism. The Capital District Chapter is one of six in New York under the MOAA State Council of Chapters.

Maldonado’s recognition highlights the ongoing success of the MCJROTC program at Amsterdam High School and its role in fostering leadership and service among students
