Community Basketball Game

On Monday, June 9, the Greater Amsterdam School District hosted its annual GASD Community Basketball Game, drawing students, staff, and community members for a doubleheader evening of spirited competition and meaningful fundraising.

The event began with a matchup between the Unified Rams and Unified Mohonasen at 4:30 p.m. Unified Sports programs bring together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities, fostering teamwork, inclusion and community. Both teams displayed strong sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the game.

At 6 p.m., the second game tipped off featuring GASD staff versus a team of local first responders from the Amsterdam Police Department, Amsterdam Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The game brought energy and excitement to the gym as spectators watched teachers and public safety personnel compete in good fun and for a good cause.

The games raised $4,000 toward the construction of a new Unified bocce court at Amsterdam High School. All proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics and the GASD Educational Foundation.

The district extends its thanks to everyone who supported this year’s event—players, coaches, fans, and community partners—for coming together to celebrate inclusion and support opportunities for all students. The success of the event continues to reflect GASD’s commitment to inclusive athletics and meaningful community collaboration.
