The Greater Amsterdam School District has announced the appointment of Angie Cerrone as the new principal of Marie Curie Elementary School.

Cerrone is an experienced educator with a background in both general and special education, as well as school leadership across multiple grade levels.

Before joining Marie Curie Elementary, Cerrone served as assistant principal at both the high school and middle school levels in the Scotia-Glenville Central School District and was the principal of the district’s summer school program. Her previous teaching experience includes several years as a high school math teacher, 10 years as a PreK-5 elementary teacher in Albany, and eight years as a special education consultant teacher for grades K-5 in Troy.

“I am excited to be back at the elementary level and eager to celebrate all the great things happening at Marie Curie and within the community,” Cerrone said.

She has also held a number of leadership roles, including Response to Intervention coordinator, district-level curriculum team member, teacher mentor and grade-level team leader.

Cerrone holds a master’s degree in leadership and supervision, a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction and assessment, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She also holds extended certification in students with disabilities from birth through grade six.

The Greater Amsterdam School District looks forward to the leadership, dedication and perspective Cerrone brings to Marie Curie Elementary and is excited to support her in this new role.
