Community Helper

Elementary Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) students at the Greater Amsterdam School District celebrated their annual Community Helpers Day this month with hands-on activities and special guests from local agencies.

Representatives from the New York State Police, Amsterdam Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Amsterdam Fire Department, Amsterdam Animal Control and the Department of Public Works joined the event to showcase their important roles in keeping the community safe and running smoothly. Even Snow Cone Joe stopped by to bring smiles and cool treats.

Students had the chance to explore equipment, ask questions and participate in interactive activities that highlighted the responsibilities of each community helper. To cap off the event, the district’s Special Education department provided ice cream for all attendees.

GASD thanks all of the community partners who made this day possible and helped create a fun and educational experience for its young learners.
