The Greater Amsterdam School District’s Extended School Year (ESY) 2025 program provided students with a range of activities designed to support social, academic and communication growth over the summer.
Throughout the program, students engaged in a variety of hands-on experiences including cooking, painting “friendship rocks,” and public speaking through morning announcements. A visit from Jani Poppins added to the excitement, while students had opportunities to build relationships with both new and familiar peers.
Community engagement played a key role in the program. Students met with local first responders, including members of the Amsterdam Police Department and Amsterdam Fire Department, who spoke about their roles and equipment. These visits helped students better understand the responsibilities of community helpers.
The district’s ESY program aims to maintain and strengthen student progress during the summer months through interactive learning, social development and community involvement.
