The Greater Amsterdam School District has appointed Molly L. Schaefer as interim principal of Amsterdam High School, effective immediately.

Schaefer has served as assistant principal at AHS since 2023, where she has overseen student engagement initiatives, supported academic programs, and collaborated with faculty and staff to strengthen the school’s culture and learning environment.

Prior to joining GASD, Schaefer worked in the Schenectady City School District beginning in 2009. She held roles as Dean of Student Engagement at Schenectady High School, an 8th grade Social Inquiry teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School, and a French teacher for grades 7–12. She has also been a teen/parent advocate and an active member of committees focused on youth support, women’s empowerment, and anti-racism. In 2019, she was recognized as one of the “Best of the Best Teachers” by the Daily Gazette.

Schaefer holds certification in Educational Leadership from the School of Professional Development at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She also earned a master’s degree in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages from SUNY Albany, and a bachelor’s degree in Adolescence Education and French with honors from SUNY Oneonta.

Her appointment as interim principal follows her years of leadership experience and reflects the district’s commitment to maintaining strong, consistent leadership at Amsterdam High School.
