Students from Tecler Elementary laced up their sneakers and hit the field at Shuttleworth Park on Friday for the school’s newly named Home Run Turkey Trot, a fun and festive event that brought together students, staff, and community partners for a day of healthy activity and school spirit.
Students ran laps around the historic infield, cheered on by teachers, families, and members of the Amsterdam High School Varsity Baseball team, who volunteered throughout the day to assist with the event and meet the younger students.
The winners of this year’s Turkey Trot received free admission to the AHS Varsity Baseball Camp this spring, as well as $15 Market 32 gift cards to help with their Thanksgiving food purchases. The prizes were generously sponsored by the Tecler PTO.
Winners of this year’s event include:
Prekindergarten: Joan and Louie (Torres class)
Kindergarten: Santina Gonzalez, Michael Waddell
First grade: Ella Paton, Bryson Ortiz
Second grade: Penelope Williams, Bryson Julia
Third grade: Vionna Sumpter, Willow Guere, NJ Julia, Oliver Gonzalez
Fourth grade: Westley Fraiser, Evimar Flete-Monterey

The event continues a beloved Tecler tradition that encourages physical activity, teamwork, and community connection. Students, staff, and families came together to celebrate the start of the holiday season in true Tecler spirit.
