Turkey Teacher

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — McNulty Academy students, staff and families came together this week for the school’s annual Turkey Teacher Assembly, raising $1,256 to benefit the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. The donation will help provide more than 8,000 pounds of food for families in need across Montgomery County.

Representatives from Catholic Charities attended the event to accept the donation, including Executive Director Mike Finochhi, Montgomery County Youth Services Director Noelle Smrtic, and Emergency Assistance and Food Pantry Director Kathy Bulger.

The fundraiser is powered each year by McNulty’s popular “feather campaign,” where students purchase paper feathers for 10 cents apiece and use them to decorate staff “turkeys.” This year, Tamara Marsicano was crowned 2025 Turkey Teacher, with Hannah Miller, Sarah Olsen, Felicia Communiello, Emily Reed and Jennifer Porter serving as the Turkey Teacher Court.

Principal Tina O’Brien said the event continues to showcase the school’s commitment to service and community.

“The Turkey Teacher tradition is one of the best examples of who we are as a school,” O’Brien said. “Our students learn the importance of giving back, our staff shows incredible spirit, and together our McNulty family makes a meaningful impact for families who need it most.”

The celebration concluded with music, dancing and plenty of school spirit. Over the past 14 years, the McNulty community has raised nearly $20,000 for local families through this tradition.

McNulty Academy extends special thanks to Mrs. Sollecito-Pritchard and the 5th Grade Student Council for their leadership in organizing the event each year.
