The Greater Amsterdam School District held its District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Jan. 13, bringing together some of the district’s strongest spellers from across its elementary schools.

A total of 30 students qualified for the district-level competition, with 20 students participating. After several challenging rounds, three students emerged as the top finishers:

  • First Place: Gordon Schaufelberg, Grade 4, Barkley Elementary

  • Second Place: Rebecca Overbaugh, Grade 4, Tecler Elementary

  • Third Place: Agusto Landrio, Grade 5, Tecler Elementary

The three winners will represent the Greater Amsterdam School District at the regional spelling bee on March 28, to be held at the Love Albany Center in Albany, N.Y.
