Several members of the JROTC program at Amsterdam High School have committed to serving in branches of the United States military, marking an important milestone as they prepare for graduation and their future careers.
The students cited personal motivation, family influence and a desire to serve as key factors in their decisions.
Ryan Adams, who will join the U.S. Marines, said JROTC played a significant role in shaping his understanding of honor and military tradition.
“I have wanted to join the Marines since I was little. Joining JROTC helped me learn about earning honor, understand military history, and develop a deep respect for the way Marines carry themselves,” Adams said.
John Malec, who committed to the U.S. Air Force, said his decision was inspired by family stories.
“I wanted to join the Air Force because of the stories I heard from my grandparents,” Malec said.
Miguel Medina, also joining the U.S. Marines, said he was motivated by opportunity and purpose.
“I wanted to join the service because it will allow me to travel to other countries, receive health benefits, and be part of something bigger than myself,” Medina said.
Jexiarilys Figueroa Morales, who committed to the U.S. Marines, said her decision reflects a desire to push herself.
“I want to serve to show my family that I can achieve anything and push myself beyond my limits,” she said.
Edelyn Soto Quezada, who will join the Army National Guard, said service aligns with her long-term goals.
“I believe this is a great opportunity to build my life, learn a great deal, serve my country, and help people along the way,” Soto Quezada said.
Alessa Rivera, also joining the U.S. Marines, said her commitment is rooted in gratitude and responsibility.
“We would not be here if it were not for brave service members who fought for our freedom, and I want the opportunity to do the same,” Rivera said.
Zaidilis Sanabria Rivera, who committed to the U.S. Air Force, said her motivation comes from family.
“I want to serve to make my younger brother proud and show him that he should never settle for less,” she said.
Alexis Torres, who will serve in the Army National Guard, said his older brother’s service influenced her decision.
“The main reason I chose to join is that I wanted to do something I enjoy while being part of something bigger than myself,” Torres said.
Through the JROTC program, students develop leadership skills, discipline and civic responsibility. The Greater Amsterdam School District congratulates these students and thanks them for their commitment to service.
