Amsterdam High School introduced a new digital system designed to streamline student movement and attendance tracking with the launch of the MOOV ID scanning system on Monday, March 2.

Students received new identification cards during grade-level assemblies earlier that day and began using them to scan into the cafeteria during their assigned lunch periods and into the gym during their assigned physical education classes. The system is currently being used for cafeteria entry, gym entry and lunch purchases, with students scanning their IDs upon arrival.

Each student was provided with a school ID card, along with a plastic holder and the option of a yellow Amsterdam High School lanyard. Any unclaimed IDs were made available in the cafeteria throughout lunch periods during the week of implementation and in the main office during alternate periods of the day.

District and school officials say the new system is designed to help improve efficiency during lunch periods while reducing congestion in the Commons area. By scanning their IDs upon entering the cafeteria, students can move through the space more smoothly while staff maintain a clearer understanding of student attendance during lunch periods. The system also supports improved organization and monitoring in high-traffic areas such as the gym during physical education classes.

The MOOV system is expected to expand in the future. While the current rollout focuses on cafeteria and gym access, the long-term goal is to explore additional uses, including daily attendance upon entry, classroom attendance, hall pass management and potentially extracurricular activities.

Officials also noted that the district continues to explore whether student IDs could eventually be integrated with CDTA bus passes, though that feature is not available at this time.

As with any new technology implementation, school staff anticipated a short adjustment period as students became familiar with the process. Faculty and staff assisted students throughout the first week to help ensure a smooth transition.
